Hey guys, This is the thread for my d20 d&d mixed genre game. Fundamentally im using the same rules out of the v3.5 books but there are a few minor changes.
I think I can accomodate up to 8-10 players. Really depends on how things go. Right now the game would be on Saturday Afternoons. But as circumstances change for me, I might be able to run it some other time instead.
Backstory The PCs start out as normal everyday people for the most part. They come from a high tech society that has started spreading out among the stars. About a hundred years ago there was a clandestine war against aliens that were trying to invade earth and turn people into aliens thru genetics. But somehow humans won out, and there was a technology explosion from the stuff they captured. Since then the aliens have not shown up and no other intelligent races have been encountered yet.
Character Plot The PCs have won a "chance of a lifetime" trip. They were the ones who didn't think the mail they got was a bunch of spam. Not only were they given an extended vacation in a fantastic resort, but afterward they would be given a "unique opportunity", which was not fully explained in detail.
After the vacation was over, they were scooped up on a transport to a remote space station in uncharted territory. They're told they'll be travelling into another dimension not only to enjoy themselves in the pristine surroundings, but also that By Contract they are required to go for the purposes of exploration.
They'll be coming back of course... the trip is planned only for 1 month, and they can use their locator beacon to request an early retrieval. They've been assured it's completely safe.
But there is something odd about the whole thing. The people are too nice. There is too much security. And the equipment locker includes energy weapons they can take with them (some of which are illegal to civilians).
But so far the PCs haven't had a reason to complain, they've been treated like kings.
Character Creation Im extremely generous when it comes to abilities and stuff.
* Roll 4d6 for each ability, rerolling all 1's and 2's until they turn up something else. Discard lowest die. * Roll two sets of stats and choose one of the sets, distribute abilities as you see fit. * Or you can take a 40 point buy as per the rules in the DMG.
Characters start at 5th level. Characters gain Feats every 2 levels (1, 3, 5, 7, etc). Characters gain Ability score adjustments every 2 levels instead of 4 (2, 4, 6, 8, etc).
You can choose from magical or non-magical classes alike, and you can choose racial templates too (like half dragon, etc).
Basically Anything from any d20 book is fair game, but the rules will be centered on the standard d&d setting. I have to approve it if im not familiar with it.
Starting Equipment is selected from the equipment locker at the space station, I have a list of items to choose from.
I prefer character gen to take place at the table. This description here is for planning purposes.
Out of Character Plot (Spoiler)
The PCs had a past life in the fantasy dimension, and by sending them there, their magical and racial powers will be reactivated. Then the black ops guys running the program will just scoop them back up, and study and dissect them to try to learn the secrets of making it work in the "real" world.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. This organization has been sending people thru the portal for a long time now and has a firm grasp on how to handle the process. They've also had some "runaways", who ran away and smashed their beacons... and some unexpected "things" have come back through the portal that needed to be dealt with swiftly.
They've also got plans to invade the other dimension too, just only after they gain a firm understanding of the supernatural. They aren't confident they can do it through force, even with their technology.
